variety.com/2015/news/portlandia-gets-two-season-renewal-from-ifc-1201429875/IFC can’t get enough of “Portlandia.” The cabler has given the Carrie Brownstein-Fred Armisen comedy series a two-season renewal, taking the show through its seventh season. “Portlandia,” produced by Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video, at present is in its fifth season on IFC. The renewal calls for 10 half-hour episodes in both seasons six and seven. The series has become the flagship original series for IFC. Brownstein and Armisen play a collection of oddball characters that reflect the uniquely weird lifestyle of the Pacific Northwest in general and Portland, Ore., in particular. “Portland may be a place where young people go to retire, but IFC is not retiring Portlandia,” said IFC prexy Jennifer Caserta. Referencing one of the recurring character pieces from the show, she added: “And if you order a book from Toni and Candace at the Feminist Bookstore right now, it might even arrive by the time season seven rolls around.” Jonathan Krisel co-created the series and exec produces with stars-writers Brownstein and Armisen. The show’s ultra-hip cachet and ties to the “Saturday Night Live” world through Armisen and Michaels have helped it draw a raft of notable guest stars in recent seasons.
