variety.com/2015/film/news/sony-india-sues-over-south-korean-remake-badmashiyaan-1201430282/MSM Motion Pictures, the film production arm of Sony’s Indian broadcast unit Sony Entertainment Network, is suing to prevent release of film “Badmashiyaan,” which it says is a copy. MSM was granted an injunction by the Delhi High Court preventing the distribution and exhibition of the film and its trailer. The Sony unit says that “Badmashiyaan,” which is made by VRG Motion Pictures and is set for release in Feb. 27, is an illegal copy of 2011 South Korean film “Couples.” MSM says that it has licensed the exclusive rights to make a Hindi-language version of “Couples,” which was directed by Jeong Yong-ki and was produced by Sidus FNH. The Indian film industry has frequently made illegal remakes of Hollywood and international films, though in recent years Indian producers have begun to license rights and sue to protect them.
