Yael Fogiel and Laetitia Gonzalez’s Les Films du Poisson are venturing into Christian Volckman’s English-language debut, “The Room,” and Dror Moreh’s “Corridors of Power.”
A fantasy film, “The Room” follows Kate and Matt, a young urban couple in their thirties who leave the city and move into an old house in the countryside. And they soon discover a hidden room that has the extraordinary power to materialize their every wish.
Les Films du Poisson is in advanced negotiations with Wild Bunch to hand out international sales rights.
The project will be set up as a French-Canadian co-production. The French company is in negotiations with Martin Katz’s Prospero Pictures.
Slated to start shooting during this year’s second half, “The Room” will mark the sophomore film of Volckman, whose debut “Renaissance” sold to more than 40 countries.
Moreh’s follow-up to Oscar-nominated “The Gatekeepers,” “Corridors of Power” will examine the United Nations’ handling of genocidal crimes’ prevention, and how world leaders have responded to reports of the mass killing of civilians in Kuwait, Bosnia, Rwanda to Kosovo, and more recently to crimes in Libya, Syria and Iraq.
“The Gatekeepers” revolved around interviews with six former heads of the Shin Bet, Israel’s secret service. On top of earning an Oscar nomination, it won the National Board of Review, the National Society of Film Critic and the L.A. Film Critics Assn. nods.
Led-produced by Estelle Fialon at Les Films du Poisson, “Corridors of Power” will be set up as a French-Israeli-German co-production.
“Corridors of Power” is a natural continuation to ‘The Gatekeepers’ because it starts after WWII when the U.N. was created and vowed to prevent crimes against humanity, and how the U.N . has failed to keep its promise, often for political reasons,” said Fogiel.
The docu project is being circled by various distributors and sales agents, including a U.S. studio.
Shooting of “Corridors of Power” will start this summer.
