Nick Cassavetes To Direct ‘Brothers In Crime’ Adaptation For Valhalla & Universal Cable Prods
As adaptations go, Gale Anne Hurd has a pretty good record. Among other credits, the executive producer of AMC’s ratings behemoth The Walking Dead helped guide the Robert Kirkman co-created comic series to the small screen. Now it’s straight outta Sweden as the Valhalla Entertainment chief and Universal Cable Productions are bringing the Euro crime drama Tusenbröder stateside as Brothers In Crime. The Other Women director Nick Cassavetes is set to helm and EP the TV series with Warrior writer Cliff Dorfman handling the screenplay and EPing also. Tusenbröder writer Lars Lundström will serve as co-EP on Brothers In Crime.
The project is part of Valhalla’s nearly 3-year old exclusive pod deal with UCP. Hurd’s company and UCP are currently developing Hunters, which has a 13-episode straight-to-series order at Syfy. Based on the Alien Hunter novel by Whitley Strieber, Hunters is set to debut next year.
The original Swedish series of Tusenbröder ran for 3 seasons in 2001, 2002 and 2006, with the last cycle opening as big-screen release before being re-edited for television. The U.S. version of the show will focuses on three old friends who own a ucpconstruction business together. To stave off financial collapse and worse, the trio turn to a criminal act to keep things from going very wrong.
“I’m super excited to be working with Universal Cable Productions and Valhalla Entertainment on Brothers,’” Cassavetes said Monday. “The show explores some real issues going on in this country today: the difficulty of attaining the modern American dream and the complexity of marriage, family, and friendship. It takes a close look into the forbidden fruit — how much we’re allowed to take without crossing the line, both morally and legally. There are some really great parts and characters; it’s going to be a helluva ride!”
Cassavetes is repped by WME and LBI Entertainment. Dorfman is repped by ICM Partners and Apostle Management.
