variety.com/2015/film/news/berlin-vertical-buys-ethan-peck-nate-parkers-thriller-eden-1201424213/Vertical Entertainment has acquired North American rights for Shyam Madiraju’s thriller “Eden,” starring Ethan Peck and Nate Parker. Jessica Lowndes, Diego Boneta, James Remar and Sung Kang also star. Producers are Jaume Collet-Serra, Shyam Madiraju, Nate Parker, Hernany Perla and Juan Sola. The film will be released in theaters in the third quarter. Voltage will be handling international sales of the film during the Berlin Film Festival. The script, written by Mark Mavrothalasitis and Nate Parker, centers on a plane crash off the coast of a deserted Pacific island, leaving the surviving members of an American soccer team with limited resources, dwindling food supply and no rescue coming any time soon. Team spirit evaporates as two factions form – a violent one lead by an unbalanced ruler (played by Peck) and a compassionate one led by a selfless player (played by Parker). “We are proud to be partnering with Voltage Pictures and Ombra Films on the release of this intriguing film,” said Vertical co-president Rich Goldberg. “The dynamic storytelling and ‘Lord of the Flies’ appeal made ‘Eden’ an instant draw and a strong addition to our 2015 slate.” The deal was negotiated by Goldberg and Peter Jarowey from Vertical Entertainment and CAA and Voltage Pictures on behalf of the filmmakers.
