Relativity & Lantica Media Board Dominican Republic-Set ‘Our Father’
Relativity Studios and Lantica Media are partnering to co-produce and co-finance thriller Our Father, written and directed by Frank E. Flowers. Relativity’s Matt Alvarez and Lantica Media’s production arm are overseeing the project. Filming will take place at the new Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios, a Lantica Media company managed by the Pinewood Group.
Our Father is the story of an aging undercover FBI Special Agent who is reassigned to a desk job after battling drug and alcohol abuse. When he learns that a son he never knew he had is in trouble, he defies the FBI and hits the streets to save him.
One draw to filming on the Caribbean island is its 25% freely transferable tax credit on all qualifying local expenditures. Another is its 18% value added tax and custom duties exemption of temporary imports on eligible goods.
The deal comes on the heels of a restructuring of Lantica Media’s operations, including a rebranding and a name change from Indomina to Lantica Media, and a refocusing on its core asset, the recently opened Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios, and on the development, production and financing of film and television content.
“The partnership on Our Father will serve as a template for Lantica Media and Relativity Studios to work together on co-producing and co-financing films with budgets up to $80 million,” the companies said in a joint statement. “Relativity will handle worldwide distribution for any movies they make together. In addition, the companies will explore technical, film-related education and athlete/talent representation initiatives in the Dominican Republic.”
