Cinema Libre Buys Andy Summers’ The Police Documentary
Cinema Libre Studio has acquired Andy Summers’ “Can’t Stand Losing You: Surviving The Police” from Yari Film Groups for U.S. distribution.
The film, based on Summers’ memoir “One Train Later,” will have a theatrical release in the spring before being released on DVD and On Demand platforms.
“Surviving the Police” features Summers, Sting and Stewart Copeland and tells of the The Police’s meteoric rise, break-up and reunion through archival footage and Summers’ personal collection of photographs. The director is Andy Grieve, who edited “The Armstrong Lie” and “We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks.”
Guitarist Summers, drummer Copeland and bassist Sting formed The Police in 1977. The film starts as Summers’ prepares for the band’s 2007 reunion tour and recalls the 1983 Shea Stadium concert that marked the breakup.
The film was produced by Norman Golightly, Nicolas Cage, Brett Morgen and Bob Yari. It features an original film score by Summers, who is also an executive producer.
“Surviving the Police” screened at DOCNYC in 2012 and First Time Fest in 2013. The film was acquired from Yari Film Group in a deal negotiated by William J. Immerman and Cinema Libre Studio’s Philippe Diaz.
