variety.com/2015/tv/news/nbc-orders-comedy-pilot-cuckoo-from-lionsgate-tv-1201418558/NBC Orders Comedy Pilot ‘Cuckoo’ From Lionsgate TV NBC has ordered the comedy pilot “Cuckoo,” based on the BBC3 series that starred Andy Samberg as an offbeat American who marries into a British family. The U.S. rendition comes from Lionsgate TV and will be spearheaded by showrunner-exec producer Tim Long (“The Simpsons”). “Cuckoo” creators Robin French and Kieron Quirke are on board as writers and exec producers, along with Ash Atalla. “Cuckoo” has aired two seasons to date on BBC3, although Samberg exited after the end of the first season in 2013 because of his commitment to Fox’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” The British version featured Greg Davies as the stern father of a woman who returns home married to a “spiritual ninja” after spending a year in America. In the second season, the Cuckoo character goes missing, and Samberg’s void was filled by actor Taylor Lautner in a different role. Samberg is not expected to be involved in the U.S. rendition.

deadline.com/2015/02/flula-borg-youtube-cast-cuckoo-nbc-pilot-1201378862/YouTube Star Flula Borg To Topline NBC Comedy Pilot ‘Cuckoo’ German-born DJ, musician, actor and YouTube personality Flula Borg has landed the title role in NBC’s comedy pilot Cuckoo, an adaptation of the breakout BBC Three comedy series, which starred Andy Samberg. NBC’s Cuckoo is the story of a middle-class family whose daughter comes back from a summer abroad married to a charming but infuriating eccentric named Cuckoo (Borg), much to her father’s annoyance. (In the British series, an English girl returns home from her post-college gap year with an eccentric hippie American husband named Cuckoo, originally played by Samberg.) UK writers Robin French and Kieron Quirke, who created the BBC series, wrote the adaptation with The Simpsons veteran Tim Long, who serves as showrunner. French, Quirke and Long executive produce with the original series’ exec producers Ash Atalla for Lionsgate TV and the original series’ producer Roughcut Television. Borg, a Bavarian-born LA transplant, has amassed over 60M views on his YouTube channel. (you can watch one of his most popular videos above). By the upfronts in May, when NBC will make decisions on which of its pilots to pick up to series, Borg’s profile in the U.S. will have risen significantly as he has a key role in Pitch Perfect 2, from NBC sibling Universal Pictures, which opens May 15. Borg is repped by UTA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

variety.com/2015/tv/news/michael-chiklis-cheryl-hines-cuckoo-nbc-pilot-andy-samberg-1201457213/Michael Chiklis, Cheryl Hines Join NBC Comedy Pilot ‘Cuckoo’ Michael Chiklis and Cheryl Hines have joined the cast of the NBC comedy pilot “Cuckoo.” The Lionsgate TV series is based on the BBC3 comedy series that starred Andy Samberg in its first season as a hippie who winds up married to the daughter of a conservative couple. Chiklis will play a successful lawyer who is determined to rid himself of his son-in-law. Hines will play a fun-loving woman who welcomes the new member of the family, played by Flula Borg, and the changes in her daughter, played by Rachel DiPillo. Landing Chiklis is a coup for the project. The Emmy-winning star of “The Shield” is known for his versatility with both comedy and drama. Tim Long is showrunner and exec producer along with writers Robin French and Kieron Quirke. Ash Atalla, who shepherded the British series, is also an exec producer.
