William Buckley Docu ‘Best Of Enemies’ Acquired By Magnolia & Participant – Sundance One of the hot Sundance documentaries is spoken for. Magnolia Films has teamed with Participant to make a high-six-figure acquisition of Best Of Enemies. This is a behind-the-scenes account of the explosive 1968 televised debates between liberal Gore Vidal and conservative William F. Buckley Jr. They disagreed on everything from politics to religion and sex. The pic was directed by Morgan Neville, whose last docu 20 Feet From Stardom won the 2014 Best Documentary Oscar. He directed this with Robert Gordon. The plan is for a theatrical release on the art house circuit. Deal was brokered by Submarine and WME Global. It premiered in the U.S. Documentary Competition category last Friday at the Library Theatre. It’s the third deal for Magnolia, which also acquired Tangerine, and Results.
