deadline.com/2015/01/mississippi-grind-a24-sundance-1201362151/The Sundance Film Festival deals keep coming. A24 is finalizing a U.S. rights deal for Mississippi Grind worth just over $2 million, I hear. Directed by the Half Nelson team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the film stars Ryan Reynolds, Ben Mendelsohn, Sienna Miller, Analeigh Tipton, Alfre Woodard and Robin Weigart. It was financed by Sycamore’s Ben Nearn and Tom Rice. Sycamore was behind Begin Again and The Way Way Back. Jamie Patricof and Lynette Howell produce. The drama is about a gambler in debt who sets off on a road trip through the Southern U.S. with a young gambling addict in an attempt to change his luck. The film launched Saturday in the Premieres Section of the festival at the Eccles Theatre, with strong performances by Reynolds and Mendelsohn. WME Global sold the film, and this marks the 10th deal that the agency has been involved in so far at Sundance, worth north of $30 million in minimum guarantees by my estimates.
