Nicolas Cage has joined the comedy “Army of One” with TWC-Dimension acquiring North American rights. Larry Charles, whose credits include “Borat,” “Bruno” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” is directing from a script by Scott Rothman and Rajiv Joseph. “Army of One” is inspired by a 2010 GQ article written by Chris Heath about Gary Faulkner, an ex-con who made 11 attempts to travel to the most volatile region of Pakistan to capture Osama bin Laden, armed with only a sword. FilmNation will launch international sales at Berlin. Conde Nast Entertainment and Endgame Entertainment are the production companies. Producers are Dawn Ostroff and Jeremy Steckler at CNE, Emile Gladstone at Emile Gladstone Productions and Endgame Entertainment’s James D. Stern. Patrick Newall will serve as exec producer. Shooting is slated to begin in the first quarter. “Army of One” will be released under the new TWC-Dimension label, which saw its first release last week with “Paddington” and is aimed at covering films with both artistic and commercial sensibilities. “The plan for the movie would be an end of 2015 release,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of TWC. The news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
