“Thor: The Dark World” kicked off the weekend by taking in an estimated $7.1 million in midnight showings. Opening tops previous Thursday preview grosses for the first “Thor” ($3.2 million) and “Captain America: The First Avenger” ($4.0 million). “Dark World” has also seen its international haul rise to $152.8 million and it opens today in China. Film is projected for a domestic weekend north of $95 million, which would far surpass its predecessor’s $65 million opening in May 2011, no doubt helped by the familiarity of the character and his appearance in “The Avengers.” “The Dark World” marks the first fall release for Marvel since having been acquired by Disney.
