variety.com/2015/film/news/disney-sets-several-2016-release-dates-1201404285/Disney Sets Several 2016 Release Dates Disney has moved its “Jungle Book” reboot back six months to April 15, 2016, and filled the Oct. 9 slot with the Chris Pine disaster drama “The Finest Hours.” “Jungle Book” is directed by Jon Favreau, with Neel Sethi as Mowgli and Idris Elba voicing the tiger Shere Khan. Warner Bros.’ rival project “Jungle Book: Origins” is being directed by Andy Serkis and is set for release on Oct. 6, 2017. “The Finest Hours,” directed by Craig Gillespie, centers on the rescue mission after a storm off Cape Cod damaged two oil tankers in 1952. The film had been set for April 15, 2016. Disney has also dated the “Pete’s Dragon” remake for Aug. 12, 2016, and DreamWorks’ “Ghost in the Shell” for April 14, 2017. Michael C. Hall, Robert Redford, Bryce Dallas Howard and Wes Bentley are on board “Pete’s Dragon,” with newcomer Oakes Fegley set as the title character. David Lowery will direct from a script he wrote with Toby Halbrooks. Scarlett Johansson will star in “Ghost in the Shell,” an adaptation of the popular Japanese anime film. All four films will be released in 3D.
