Amazon Sets Premiere Date for Cop Drama ‘Bosch’
Amazon Studios will premiere all 10 episodes of “Bosch,” its first hour-long drama on Friday, Feb. 13.
The series, based on Michael Connelly’s bestselling “Harry Bosch” books, stars Titus Welliver (“Sons of Anarchy,” “Argo”) as the titular LAPD homicide detective. As with its other originals, “Bosch” will be available exclusively to Amazon Prime subscribers on Prime Instant Video in the U.S., the U.K. and Germany.
“We had a very strong response to the pilot from our customers and, after years of anticipation from the fan community, we are delighted to launch the complete first television season of Michael Connelly’s classic works of LA noir,” Amazon Studios VP Roy Price said in a statement.
It’s been a busy week for Price and the Amazon Studios team: On Tuesday Amazon inked a pact with Woody Allen, who will create and direct his first TV show for the Internet company. That came after the studio’s original series “Transparent” from Jill Soloway won a Golden Globe for best TV musical or comedy and series star Jeffrey Tambor won for best actor in a TV comedy.
Meanwhile, Amazon Studios earlier this month canceled its order for supernatural thriller “The After” from Chris Carter (creator and exec producer of “X-Files”). That would have been its other first one-hour drama.
“Bosch” was developed for TV by Eric Overmyer (“Treme,” “The Wire,” “Homicide: Life on the Streets”) and exec produced by Overmyer, Connelly and Henrik Bastin (“The Killing,” “Burn Notice”).
The series is primarily based on elements from Connelly’s books “City of Bones” (2002), “The Concrete Blonde” (1994) and “Echo Park” (2006). In the series, Hollywood detective Harry Bosch works to solve the murder of a 13-year-old boy while standing trial in federal court for the murder of a serial killer.
“I am very pleased with season one,” Connelly said in a statement. “We have been extremely loyal to the character and city in the books. I think anybody who likes Harry Bosch on the page is going to like him on screen too. Titus Welliver is perfectly cast and viewers are going to be drawn to him whether they’ve read the books or not.”
