Report: Randy Savage WWE Hall of Fame announcement expected tonight
By Josh Nason, Wrestling Observer
TMZ Sports is reporting that on RAW Monday, WWE will officially announce that the late Randy Savage will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame the night before Wrestlemania 31 in Santa Clara, CA.
The WWE Network Twitter account is now basically confirming the news and is also reporting that Hulk Hogan will induct him.
Savage, who died in May 2011, ruled the then-WWF from 1985-1994, holding the organization's top prize twice and the Intercontinental title once, losing it in one of the most memorable matches of all-time against Ricky Steamboat at Wrestlemania III in 1986.
Perhaps Savage's most well-known feud was against Hulk Hogan, culminating (the first time, anyway) at Wrestlemania V, closing out a one-year storyline where Savage won the title at Wrestlemania IV and eventually turned heel over jealousy regarding the affection of Elizabeth. He also had the classic career vs. career bout against the Ultimate Warrior at Wrestlemania VII, and countless other memorable matches, feuds and angle before leaving for WCW in 1994.
He would remain in WCW until 2000, resurfacing for a short run in TNA over 2004-05. He'd never made an appearance on WWE TV again, causing many to speculate over why that was the case. He did do this spot for the WWE All-Stars game in 2011 as well as famously play a small supporting role in the first Spider-Man movie and voice over work in the animated Bolt among others.
Savage died in May 2011 after suffering a heart attack while driving in Florida at 58 years old.
