The doc, which premiered at the 2014 Lone Star Film Festival, is co-directed and co-produced by “Twilight” and “The Fault in Our Stars” producer Marty Bowen and Richard Cameron White and focuses on players, coaches and parents as they chase what they call the Pee-Wee version of the Super Bowl. “We are incredibly excited to be working with the Orchard on ‘The Roughnecks,'” Bowen said. “It was a labor of love for us — especially me since I played for them when I was young — and the Orchard’s innovative, passionate approach to distribution is the perfect fit in getting our movie out to a mass audience.” Orchard Film & TV senior VP Paul Davidson added: “‘Roughnecks’ is an epic tale as much about Pee-Wee football as it is about youngsters finding themselves in the face of adversity. Richard Cameron White and Marty Bowen have delivered an inspiring tale about a world as fascinating as it is surprising.” The Orchard will distribute the film digitally in 2015. The deal was negotiated by Danielle DiGiacomo of the Orchard and by UTA on behalf of the filmmakers.
