Olmos will play Robert Gonzales, a character whose addition is said to instigate “massive repercussions for Director Coulson and his team.” "Edward James Olmos brings an amazing gravitas to any role he inhabits, something we knew we needed for Robert Gonzales," said "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." executive producer Jeph Loeb in the announcement. "When Olmos first appears on our series, everyone will have to take notice -- including our favorite Agents." The information surrounding Olmos' addition to the ABC series is scarce. No further character description has been given for Gonzales and no established Marvel character bears that name. Marvel has also not revealed the number of episodes Olmos is scheduled to guest star in. Fans will most likely recognize Olmos from his 2003-2009 stint as William Adama on the critically acclaimed sci-fi series "Battlestar Galactica." Olmos also enjoyed a lengthy stint on the iconic '80s cop drama "Miami Vice," appearing in over 100 episodes between 1984 and 1990. His role on "Miami Vice" earned him both an Emmy and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor. Olmos' film career is equally lauded; he earned both an Academy Award and Golden Globe nomination for his lead performance in 1988's "Stand and Deliver." "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns to ABC in March.
