-According to a source, there is NO truth to Billy Corgan having talks with TNA about purchasing the company. The story was fed by Corgan's associate, Lou D'Angeli, and it caught on from there. There has been no recent communication with Corgan and management, and as of right now, no talks are scheduled. Internally there is said to be some heat on Corgan's camp for fanning the flames.
- As for a potential buyer for TNA, the one company that I have heard that is interested is located outside of the U.S., but has strong ties to television domestically. I don't know if they are the leading candidate that Dave Meltzer recently mentioned in The Wrestling Observer.
- TNA is in talks with a national company about coming on board to be a sponsor for their television, web site and live event tours. TNA is also looking to further strengthen key relationships with YouTube and Facebook.
-Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan had criticized Wrestling Observer reporter Dave Meltzer for saying he doesn’t have enough money to buy and run TNA Wrestling. Meltzer recently reported, “While Billy Corgan may be interested in buying TNA if it’s for sale, word is that he doesn’t have the financial means to both buy it and maintain it on a long-term basis. There have been reports that he has a ‘wealthy friend’ who could invest as a co-owner, but these are just rumors for now and there is no evidence.”
Corgan responded on Twitter, “@davemeltzerwon wasn’t aware that you know the state of my empire! Next time maybe just ask….”
We reported on Saturday that Corgan is seriously interested in buying TNA Wrestling. A second hand source even told me that they believed it is a “done deal” but obviously without any official confirmation. Many mainstream music outlets and wrestling websites ran with our update to the story and twisted some of the facts, putting ‘done deal’ in the headline even though I mentioned that it was a second hand source who told me. I also mentioned that my source told me that Corgan had made a connection to someone wealthy recently and openly speculated that if Corgan had or needed a financial partner that this person could be a fit, but I never said for a fact that I was told that he had a partner on the deal. I merely mentioned he had a connection in the case that he needed to raise some capital. According to CelebrityNetWorth.com Corgan is worth $50 million. Obviously you never can know the accuracy of websites like that, but Corgan obviously has the funds to buy TNA.
- Janice Carter issued a memo to TNA staff regarding stories making the rounds that TNA was for sale.
We noted last week that Carter specifically denied those claims. We requested and received a a copy of the Carter memo from TNA this afternoon.
The complete memo, which was on Panda Energy letterhead, reads:
October 31, 2013
Dear Staff,
As we embark on our "Where Action Never Ends" 365 initiative, I wanted to take this time to thank you for your dedication and enthusiasm to your company's renewed creative direction. I feel confident that, together, we are marching towards something great - a revolutionary way to experience professional wrestling.
With this said, I am aware of the false rumors currently circulating that The Carter Family and Panda Energy is attempting to sell their ownership stakes in TNA Wrestling. An unfortunate aspect of this business is that there are wrestling "reporters" who consistently post "news stories" without proper facts. I want to assure you that these are just rumors and I am committed to TNA and its future.
While I typically find that responding to such rumors is a waste of time, I wanted to use this as a moment to express my support and delight for the creative direction we are moving in. Our work has just begun and I look forward to a long and rewarding future with you and TNA.
Warm Regards,
Janice Carter
