www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/great-escape-actor-tom-adams-757477'Great Escape' Actor Tom Adams Dies at 76 Tom Adams, an actor who appeared in the film The Great Escape and on shows such as Doctor Who, has died. He was 76. His agent, Emma Harvey, confirmed to the Guardian that Adams died following a battle with cancer. "A true gentleman, his personality was as big and warm as his voice," Harvey said. "We’ll miss him very much." Adams is perhaps best known for playing Dai Nimmo in the 1963 World War II classic The Great Escape opposite Steve McQueen, James Garner and Richard Attenborough. "It was a lovely summer. I had a hell of a time," Adams said of filming the John Sturges film in a 2013 interview with The Telegraph. "Steve McQueen was as mad as a hatter. He wrote off six or seven cars out there." "Whatever it was about Steve McQueen ... I couldn’t put my finger on it," Adams continued. "There he was, about five foot seven, skinny ... But on nights out in Munich, if he walked into the bar, the women — whoomph — would be around him. What did he have?" Adams also starred as British secret agent Charles Vine in three James Bond knockoff films in the mid-1960s. He had recurring roles on TV series such as Doctor Who, General Hospital and The Avengers. Additionally, Adams had a successful voiceover career, having served as the voice of British TV channel E4.
