variety.com/2014/tv/news/cbs-plans-another-criminal-minds-spinoff-1201378760/CBS is trying once again to spin off a series from its highly successful show “Criminal Minds.” The spinoff, which will launch as a planted episode of “Criminal Minds” later this season, will focus on an elite FBI team of profilers who work abroad. Showrunner Erica Messer will write and exec produce the episode. Casting is now in progress. This isn’t the first time a spinoff has been attempted for the ABC Studios drama. “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior” debuted in February 2011 but lasted only 13 episodes.

The potential series will center on a top FBI division that helps American citizens in trouble abroad. Sinise (“CSI: NY”) will play Jack Garrett, a 20-year veteran of the bureau who oversees the FBI’s team for handling cases involving Americans overseas. He will film an episode in mid-February, which will serve as a planted spinoff and will air later this season. Mark Gordon, Erica Messer and Nick Pepper will serve as exec producers. Messer will also write the episode. ABC Studios will produce, in association with CBS Television Studios and The Mark Gordon Company. Sinise is represented by Brillstein Entertainment Partners and CAA.

Gunn will co-star opposite Gary Sinise as the female lead in the potential series, which will follow an FBI division that helps American citizens in trouble abroad. The pilot episode, which will be penned by Erica Messer, is set to shoot this February and will air later this year during the current season of the flagship “Criminal Minds,” as a planted spinoff. Gunn will play Ally Lambert, an international law expert and talented linguist who’s an indispensable part of the FBI team that handles cases involving U.S. citizens overseas. Sinise’s casting was announced earlier this month. He’ll play Jack Garrett, a 20-year veteran of the bureau. Messer, Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper will serve as exec producers. ABC Studios will produce, in association with CBS Television Studios and the Mark Gordon Company. Gunn is repped by Christian Donatelli at MGMT Entertainment and Lorrie Bartlett at ICM.
