variety.com/2014/film/news/star-wars-trailer-george-lucas-wont-watch-force-awakens-teaser-1201373754/The Force may be strong with the first teaser trailer for “Star Wars: Episode VII” (which has amassed more than 50 million views on YouTube since its debut), but the man who created the iconic franchise apparently hasn’t joined in the appreciation. George Lucas recently told Page Six that he has yet to watch “The Force Awakens” footage, “Because it’s not in the movie theater. I like going to the movies and watching the whole thing there. I plan to see it when it’s released.” Whether that means he’s waiting to see the trailer in theaters or holding out for the entire film is unclear, but the teaser did hit 30 locations over Thanksgiving weekend. J.J. Abrams is helming the pic, which is set for release on Dec. 18, 2015. When asked whether he was curious to see what new Abrams has done with his galaxy far, far away, Lucas reportedly told Page Six, “not really.” The trailer has already spawned a slew of imitators, including a Lego version; a tongue-in-cheek approximation of what “The Force Awakens” might look like if Lucas was still directing (complete with copious CGI additions and an Anakin Skywalker Force ghost); and a “Saturday Night Live” spoof that debuted during James Franco’s episode, riffing on the age of returning cast members Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.
