variety.com/2014/film/news/dwayne-johnson-joins-disneys-moana-1201369350/Walt Disney Animation has found its demigod for “Moana” in Dwayne Johnson. The actor has signed on to voice Maui, a mythological being who aids a girl in her search for a fabled island in the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania. In Hawaiian folklore, Maui pulled the islands from the sea and lassoed the sun atop Haleakala, the islands’ highest peak. Johnson will next be seen in Universal’s “Furious 7,” out in April, and “San Andreas,” in May. He also is set to play Black Adam in superhero actioner “Shazam,” based on the DC comic. “Moana” will sail into theaters in 2016. Ron Clements and John Musker (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Princess and the Frog”) are co-directing the film. Walt Disney Animation recently produced “Big Hero 6,” out in theaters now.
