Leon Brachman, a business executive with United Artists, Columbia, Fox and Paramount, died Saturday at his Los Angeles home from the effects of progressive supranuclear palsy, his son Mitchell said. He was 85.
Brachman joined Fox as an executive vp in 1980 and stayed for more than a decade. He served as the studio’s chief negotiator and administrator for motion pictures, making deals with writers, actors and directors and being involved with film acquisitions and literary properties.
Following a management change at Fox in 1991, Brachman went to Paramount for a short stint as executive vp. He later became a consultant for such companies as Gladden Productions, Morgan Creek Productions, The Completion Bond Co., Capella Films and Martin Bregman Productions through 2005.

He moved to the legal department at Columbia in 1966 and was promoted to director of business affairs following a transfer to Los Angeles in 1976. Two years later, he returned to UA as vp business affairs.
