Robert De Niro Confirms He Will Reteam with Jennifer Lawrence and David O. Russell on ‘Joy’
ROME – Robert De Niro has confirmed he will re-team with Jennifer Lawrence and director David O. Russell on “Joy,” the biopic about Joy Mangano, inventor of the Miracle Mop. “Joy” is being produced by Fox with a reported Christmas 2015 release date.
“Yes I am going to do something with them. I am going to play a father,” De Niro said, asked about previously reported talks.
He was speaking at a Rome press conference for the European launch of HBO docu “Remembering the Artist: Robert De Niro, Sr.”
The docu screened as part of the Rome Film Festival’s year-round events, followed by an on-stage conversation with De Niro about his father.
While there are conflicting reports on whether a deal has been fully closed for Jennifer Lawrence to play Mangano, the Long Island single mom whose invention of a mop with easy-to-grip handles made her a star entrepreneur, De Niro’s confirmation indicates that it has.
De Niro would reteam on “Joy” with Lawrence and director David O. Russell, with whom he has worked on “Silver Linings Playbook” and also “American Hustle.”
De Niro was Oscar-nominated for his role as Bradley Cooper’s father “Playbook,” in which Lawrence starred as a young widow.
John Davis and John Fox are producing “Joy” for Fox-based Davis Entertainment along with Ken Mok. The script has been written by “Bridesmaids” co-scribe Annie Mumolo. Reported plans are for shooting to start in February 2015.
