Casting Director Cathy Henderson-Martin Dies
Veteran casting director Cathy Henderson-Martin died Wednesday at home in her sleep after a long battle with cancer, her daughter Heather Henderson confirmed to Deadline.
In a career that spanned more than 35 years, Henderson had 200+ credits encompassing both film and TV. “For those who knew Cathy, you will remember her very colorful life with laughter and “awe” from her lifetime experiences that no one else can claim,” the Casting Society of America said in a statement.”Always smiling, friendly, and loving life, she continued working while battling the disease, because she loved casting and making films. She helped launch the career of Billy Bob Thornton (he actually credits her for being able to get his tooth fixed!) among others, the CSA says, as well as casting such classic TV series as Charlie’s Angels, Sledge Hammer!, Helltown, Chips, and MacGyver. On the film side, her credits include The Odd Way Home, The Soccer Nanny, Sinners And Saints, Privileged and UHF among many others.
She was nominated for three Artios awards, including Best Casting for Feature Film, Independent for What’s Cooking? (2000), Best Casting for TV, Comedy Pilot for That’s My Bush! (2001), both shared with Dori Zuckerman; and Best Casting for Feature Film, Drama for Weeds (1987), shared with Barbara Hanley.
Henderson-Martin is survived by her husband Don “Sandy” Martin, children Heather and Scott, her mother Dorothy, her brother Bob Voglin and granddaughter Olivia. There will be celebrations of her life both in Pismo Beach and Los Angeles to be announced at a later date.
