Americans’ Star Costa Ronin Joins ‘Agent Carter’
A familiar Marvel character is headed to “Agent Carter.”
“The Americans'” baddie Costa Ronin will play Anton Vanko in the upcoming ABC series. Vanko’s storyline was introduced in “Iron Man 2,” where he played Howard Stark’s business partner. Vanko’s son Ivan grew up to be Whiplash (played by Mickey Rourke in the film), a deadly threat to Tony Stark’s titular character.
The elder Vanko, portrayed by Evgeniy Lazarev, made a brief appearance in the film. Ronin will play a significantly younger version of Anton on the highly-anticipated TV show.
“Fans have wanted to learn more about Anton Vanko since he was first mentioned in ‘Iron Man 2′ and we’re happy to deliver with Costa’s terrific performance in ‘Marvel’s Agents Carter,'” saidJeph Loeb, Marvel’s head of television.
Set in 1946, “Marvel’s Agent Carter” follows “Captain America” star Hayley Atwell’s adventures as Peggy Carter, who works for the Strategic Scientific Reserve in post World War II. Peggy embarks on secret missions for Howard Stark.
The series, which premieres on Jan. 6, also stars Chad Michael Murray as SSR Agent Jack Thompson and James D’Arcy as Edwin Jarvis.
