variety.com/2014/film/news/raid-star-iko-uwais-tapped-for-beyond-skyline-1201351432/Raid’ Star Iko Uwais Joins ‘Beyond Skyline’ Iko Uwais will co-star opposite Frank Grillo in “Beyond Skyline,” a spinoff of the 2010 alien invasion adventure “Skyline.” Uwais is best known for headlining “The Raid” films and for co-starring opposite Keanu Reeves in “Man of Tai Chi.” He will play the leader of an underground resistance that forms after aliens touch down on earth. Grillo plays a father looking for his abducted child. Uwais will be joined in “Beyond Skyline” by Yayan Ruhian, his co-star in “The Raid” franchise and the upcoming “The Night Comes for Us.” The pair will also act as fight choreographers on the film — the dazzling hand-to-hand combat sequences in “The Raid” films are a testament to their skills in that department. Liam O’Donnell will direct the film, in addition to writing it, while Greg and Colin Strause (the directors of the original “Skyline”) will produce along with Matthew Chausse and Mike Wiluan. Producer Greg Strause said he tapped the Uwais and Ruhian because, “We’re showcasing a new kind of alien combat, so who better to collaborate with than the most innovative fight team in the world?” Strause’s visual effects studio Hydraulx is partnering with Infinite Studios on the production. Filming is set to begin in Batam, Indonesia in early December. Roman Koplevich’s Red Sea Media is handling the foreign sales at AFM. Uwais is repped by Management 360.

variety.com/2014/film/news/frank-grillo-to-star-in-beyond-skyline-exclusive-1201350819/Frank Grillo to Star in ‘Beyond Skyline’ Frank Grillo will star in “Beyond Skyline,” a spin-off to 2010’s alien invasion adventure, “Skyline.” The signing comes on the heels of Grillo’s role in the DirecTV mixed martial arts series “Kingdom,” as well as roles in box office hits “The Purge: Anarchy” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” “Kingdom” has been picked up for 20 additional episodes. The film is currently in pre-production in Indonesia and Singapore and will begin shooting in December. Screenwriter Liam O’Donnell, who also penned the script for “Beyond Skyline” and co-wrote its predecessor, will make his directorial debut with the film. Greg and Colin Strause, who directed the first film, will produce along with Matthew Chausse. Hydraulx Entertainment and Infinite Studios are backing the film, and Hydraulx will oversee the visual effects work. “Skyline” made $66.8 million on a $10 million budget. “Beyond Skyline” is not a sequel — it’s being developed as a standalone film. Grillo will play a detective who fights to free his son from a terrifying alien warship. O’Donnell said he wrote the role with Grillo in mind, because he wanted someone who could be a “throw-back action hero battling his inner demons while outwardly kicking ass.” “I’m excited to create something fresh and visually stunning with this film,” Grillo said. “Hydraulx is unrivaled at what they do and Liam has assembled a great cast and intense script.” Grillo is repped by CAA and Management 360.
