‘Skyfall’ Director Sam Mendes Puts Production Company Up for Sale
Neal Street projects include 'The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses,' starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Richard III
LONDON — Neal Street Prods., the production company part-owned by “Skyfall” director Sam Mendes, has been put up for sale, a source close to the company has confirmed.
Neal Street, which produces “Penny Dreadful,” is on the market for around £40 million ($63.8 million).
The company was founded in 2003 by Mendes, who begins filming the 24th James Bond film next month, Pippa Harris, the former head of drama commissioning at the BBC, and Caro Newling.
Its film credits include Leonardo DiCaprio starrer “Revolutionary Road” and Jake Gyllenhaal starrer “Jarhead,” which were both helmed by Mendes, and Susanne Bier’s “Things We Lost in the Fire,” which toplined Halle Berry and Benicio Del Toro.
Neal Street’s latest film project is an adaptation of Enid Blyton’s “Magic Faraway Tree” books, as revealed exclusively in Variety.
As well as John Logan’s “Penny Dreadful,” which was commissioned by Showtime, Neal Street’s TV credits include “Call the Midwife” for the BBC, and “The Hollow Crown,” which is a series of Shakespeare adaptations for the BBC and WNET. In the latest “Hollow Crown” TV film, “The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses,” Benedict Cumberbatch plays Richard III.
Its stage shows include “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Shrek.”
Prospective buyers have received an information memorandum seeking interest in the London-based company, according to the Guardian, with advisers About Corporate Finance thought to be handling the sale. The deadline for first-round bids is said to be imminent.
A spokesman for Neal Street declined to comment.
