variety.com/2014/biz/news/al-ebner-longtime-film-publicist-dies-at-86-1201348780/Al Ebner, Longtime Film Publicist, Dies at 86 Longtime film publicist Al Ebner, whose credits includes such movies as “Jaws” and “Jaws 2,” died on Oct. 16 at the Motion Picture & Television Fund home in Woodland Hills, California. He was 86. The Springfield, Ohio, native and University of Missouri alum began working as a publicist in the motion picture industry following an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force. He served in the Korean War and worked as the sports editor of the Stars and Stripes newspaper. Ebner earned credits on 26 films over the span of 22 years, including “Close Encounters off the Third Kind,” “Cocoon” and “The Trail of Billy Jack,” as well as serving as vice president of publicity for Universal Pictures and as head of publicity for United Artists. His survivors include his brother Richard Ebner, his daughter Beth and her two sons Jade and Quenton, his son Mark Ebner, daughter-in-law Aviva Ebner and their two daughters Cassandra and Brooke, and his son Brett Ebner and his three sons Austin, Connor and Chase. Ebner’s family requests that donations in his name be made to the Motion Picture & Television Fund.
