Last night, fans who tuned in to ABC's "Marvel: 75 Years from Pulp to Pop" special, which aired in place of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," were treated to a journey through the comic publisher's three-quarters of a century history. And while most of the information shared about both the film and print versions of its heroes and villains was likely a revisitation of information for longtime fans, the final minutes did offer a look at something new.
Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso shared a look at a cover for "Secret Wars," the publisher's upcoming summer event written by Jonathan Hickman with Esad Ribic handling the art. Featuring a plethora of heroes and villains from the publisher's two main Earths, bursting towards the reader, the cover provides a few more clues about what we can expect from the story. In addition to the current incarnation of Thor, Cyclops and Captain Marvel, the art depicts both the 616 and Ultimate takes on Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four's Reed Richards. With both the multi-dimensional Spider-Verse arc and a Ultimate/616 crossover occurring in the pages of "All-New X-Men" right now, it looks as though there may be more at play than Hickman's "Time Runs Out" storyline which is unfolding in the pages of his "Avengers" title and has been widely speculated as being the slow-burning fuse leading to "Secret Wars."
Yesterday, Marvel released a teaser which simply stated "EVERYTHING ENDS" in Spring 2015, indicating some sort of a clearing of the decks ahead of the Summer 2015 event. Stay tuned to CBR for more information as it becomes available.
