IM Global is financing and will be selling international rights at AFM this week. The role gives Gyllenhaal another edgy thriller to add to his career and also gives him an opportunity to work with Fuqua again after filming the boxing pic “Southpaw” with him which will bow next year. Gyllenhaal’s latest film “Nightcrawler” earned him some of his best reviews of his career and overperformed at the box office making more than $10 million on a $8 million dollar budget. variety.com/2014/film/news/jake-gyllenhaal-drug-cartel-project-in-legal-tangle-with-emmett-furla-1201353598/Jake Gyllenhaal Drug Cartel Project in Legal Tangle With Emmett Furla Randall Emmett’s Emmett Furla Oasis Films is claiming that screenwriter Brett Taylor has cut the production company out of a recently announced project set to star Jake Gyllenhaal, and instead lined up IM Global to finance and sell international rights. The project, “The Man Who Made It Snow,” was announced last week, tied to AFM. It would reteam Gyllenhaal with his “Southpaw” director, Antoine Fuqua. The project is based on the true story of Max Mermelstein, a Jewish hotel engineer, who transformed a small mom-and-pop drug organization into a billion-dollar enterprise known as the Medellin Cartel. According to the lawsuit, Emmett Furla claims that Taylor gave them the option to produce and finance the movie on the condition that they send a pay-or-play offer to Gyllenhaal. The suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, includes a copy of the $6 million offer. Emmett Furla contends that Taylor instead negotiated an agreement with IM Global for financing and distribution of the movie. The lawsuit claims breach of contract, among other claims, and seeks $5 million in damages as well as an injunction preventing the distribution of the movie. Representatives for Taylor did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
