variety.com/2014/tv/news/lifetime-cancels-the-lottery-1201333017/The world of “The Lottery,” Lifetime’s scripted series set in a dystopian future that dealt with the threat of human extinction, has come to an end. Sources confirm that the cabler has pulled the plug on the project after one season. The 10-episode series, which hailed from “Children of Men” co-writer Timothy J. Sexton and was not to confused with the 1948 short story of the same name by Shirley Jackson, focused on a global fertility crisis. It was also more dreary in tone than some of Lifetime’s other scripted series, like “Witches of East End” and “Devious Maids.” Upcoming projects include “Un-Real,” which stars Shiri Appleby and offers a behind-the-scenes look at a competition dating show, and “Damien,” a thriller from Glen Mazzara that is based on the 1976 horror pic “The Omen.” Lifetime also working with exec producers Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Allison Shearmur on a pilot based on the “Clan of the Cave Bear” book series.
