Moving to expand a key property, Disney is building a “Frozen” attraction for its Epcot theme park in Orlando, Fla.
Disney is targeting a launch of early 2016 for the new attraction. Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, made the announcement Friday.
“We’ve made ‘Frozen’ a part of the guest experience in a number of ways already and our guests have both loved them and asked for more,” he said. “So I’m pleased to say that we’re starting construction at Walt Disney World Resort on a brand new ‘Frozen’ attraction at the Norway Pavilion in Epcot.”
The new attraction will replace the Maelstrom Viking-themed boat ride attraction at the Norway pavilion, Staggs said, and is aimed at immersing customers in their favorite moments and music from the film.
“The pavilion will also include a royal greeting location where [lead characters] Anna and Elsa can meet our guests,” he added. “We think these ‘Frozen’ elements are great compliments to the Norway Pavilion, which showcases the country and region that inspired the film.”
“Frozen” was a massive hit last year with $1.27 billion in worldwide box office.
Staggs also announced several new “Frozen”-related experiences in other areas of Walt Disney World: Elsa transforming Cinderella Castle into an ice palace every night starting in early November; “Frozen” characters in “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade”; extension of the Frozen Summer Fun Live experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios so that guest can continue singing along to “Frozen” songs; and a larger play area with real snow.
