Welcome to our live coverage of tonight's ROH iPPV from Toronto.
ACH missed his flght and isn't here, so they had Cedric Alexander come out and challenge Jay Lethal for the TV title. Lethal turned it down, saying Alexander was a loser that he'd embarrass. Alexander said he wasn't challenging Lethal, he was challenging Seleyzia Sparks because she's the one with the balls of the two. Lethal got mad about that and agreed to the match, and then tried to sucker superkick Alexander, who moved and Lethal knocked out Sparks.
MARK BRISCOE VS. HANSON
Briscoe won with an elbow drop off the top rope onto Hanson's back. Good opener. The crowd didn't seem to care about Hanson coming out, but when the 275 pound Hanson did a tope, it got them into him. Hanson showed a lot of agility in different spots. The finish was Hanson miss a moonsault and Briscoe hit the elbow for the pin.
They are pushing that Jay Briscoe hasn't been pinned in ROH in a singles match in two years.
Tommaso Ciampa is doing a suspended gimmick. Nigel McGuiness is out. They cut his mic off during his promo to make it seem "real." McGuinness is telling him to leave.
ETHAN GABRIEL OWENS & JOSH ALEXANDER VS. B.J. WHITMER & ADAM PAGE VS. CAPRICE COLEMAN & TAKAAKI WATANABE VS. MOOSE & R.D. EVANS
Lots of techncal problems in this match. Buffering every few seconds. Evans pinned Owens after Owens was going for a pin.
Really bad buffering now. No fun.
CHRISTOPHER DANIELS & FRANKIE KAZARIAN VS. RODERICK STRONG & JIMMY JACOBS
Daniels & Kazarian won when Kazarian back suplexed Strong into double knees by Daniels for the pin. Strong went to shake hands with Daniels & Kazarian and Adam Page got mad at Strong. Strong went to discipline Page but Whitmer saved Page. Jacobs came in as the peacemaker and told Storng and Whitmer to shake hands. They shook hands but they teased problems with Whitmer and Strong down the line. Lots of buffering again in this match.
A.J. STYLES VS. ADAM COLE
Styles won with a head and arm superplex like brainbuster with both standing on the top rope in more than 23:00. It's not fair to judge because of the technical issues. Definitely a good match, probably really good. It felt like Styles was physically worn down from his last six weeks. Cole dominated the match, they shook hands after and Cole spit on Styles hand after shaking the hand.
Maria Kanellis came out and announced that "Matt" was coming back. Michael Bennett teased Maria doing a strip tease. She was wearing the iconic belt, took it off and was wearing a pink belt called the title of love. Bennett talked about his wedding and told the fans they aren't invited. He then talked about how on the wedding night they consummate the marriage, but tonight's let's consummate the title. She put belt on her and he acted like he was going to take his pants off but Mark Briscoe ran in and said Jay was getting ready for his match, but later was going to get them for what they did to the belt.
Bennett was going to face Alexander to replace the injured Silas Young, but Alexander was pulled from that match to go for the TV title.
JAY LETHAL VS. CEDRIC ALEXANDER FOR THE TV TITLE
Good match. Paul Turner went down and Truth Martini chop blocked Alexander. He came back with a Michinoku driver and Frankensteiner off the top and then Alexander went to the top again. Seleyzia Sparks came out to stop him. Later, Alexander went to dropkick Lethal in the corner, but he moved so Alexander dropkicked Sparks who went down again. Alexander used his lumbar check finisher but Lethal got his foot on the ropes. Lethal then used Matt Taven's climax move and followed with the Lethal injection and got the pin to keep the title.
MICHAEL ELGIN VS. JAY BRISCOE FOR ROH TITLE
Briscoe became only the second person to win the ROH title for a second time using a Jay driller. People were not expecting a title change. Match was good, not great. A key spot was Jay jumping off the apron with a Jay driller putting Elgin through the table. Elgin came back with a buckle bomb but Jay blocked a second power bomb, and hit the Jay driller in the middle. Elgin snatched the belt from Jay and got a few booes, but then put the belt around his waist. Really funny spot when Elgin used the sharpshooter and the crowd went crazy and Steve Corino said how the Toronto fans have always loved Riki Choshu. Really no post-match celebration. We'll have more on this later tonight.
They announced Matt Sydal returns on 9/27 in Wheeling, WV for a national TV taping.
REDRAGON VS. YOUNG BUCKS 2/3 FALLS FOR THE ROH TAG TITLES
This was ridiculously good. Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish retained. The Bucks got the crowd totally behind them when it was over. It was all action and the crowd loved it.
First fall saw O'Reilly hit Nick with a hockey stick, breaking it, and Redragon did chasing the dragon on Nick for the pin. Tons cool double team moves in this fall.
Second fall saw a superkick by Nick into a package piledirver by Matt onto Fish, which was a tribute to Kevin Steen.
Third fall had one big spot after another. O'Reilly had a guillotine on Matt but Nick came off the top rope with a 450 legdrop to break it up. They did the Meltzer driver on O'Reilly (Nick springboard 450 into a spike piledriver by Matt, they made a point to tell Steve Corino to call it by that name) but Fish pulled ref Paul Turner out of the ring. They did more Bang for Your Buck into O'Reilly, except O'Reilly caught Nick in a triangle as he landed, and then switched to an armbar and did a combination armbar and leg submission while Fish threw Matt off the top rope into a table on the floor and Nick tapped out.
After the match, Tommaso Ciampa came back out and suplxed Nick and then power bombed Matt into double knees. He undid the ring canvas, cutting the ties and undid both the canvas and the mats, leaving only the boards. Ciampa gave Nick a hangman's neckbreaerker onto the boards as the show went off the air.
