Entertainment One Films U.S. signed a distribution agreement with digital-video site Vimeo covering day-and-date release of four fall features — including “A Merry Friggin’ Christmas,” starring the late Robin Williams — as well as ongoing releases from eOne’s catalog, the companies announced.
Vimeo will offer rentals and purchases of eOne titles starting with the North American releases of Claudia Meyers’ “Fort Bliss” on Sept. 19, followed by “Catch Hell” on Oct. 10, documentary “The Culture High” starring Snoop Dogg and Penn Jillette on Oct. 17 and “A Merry Friggin Christmas” on Nov. 7.
Separately, Vimeo said it reached an agreement with “Culture High” producers Score G Prods. to vend the film worldwide.
Vimeo and eOne timed the announcement to coincide with the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. This year Vimeo partnered with TIFF on the Vimeo Convergence Centre, which offers attendees an expanded conference program. Under the deal, Vimeo also is presenting unveil the TIFF Vimeo Short Cuts Channel, a dedicated channel to for shorts following their premiere at the fest.
More info on the four initial day-and-date titles under the eOne-Vimeo pact:
•“A Merry Friggin’ Christmas”: Comedy starring Joel McHale, Robin Williams and Lauren Graham. Boyd Mitchler (McHale) and his family are forced to spend a dreaded Christmas at his parents’ house with his eccentric father (Williams), whom he has been avoiding for years.
•“Fort Bliss”: Directed by Claudia Myers and staring Michelle Monaghan (“True Detective”), drama follows decorated U.S. Army medic and single mother (Monaghan) as she returns home from an extended tour in Afghanistan to discover that she must now find a way to reconcile her duties as a mother and her obligations as a soldier.
•“Catch Hell”: Suspense thriller starring and helmed by Ryan Phillippe in his directorial debut follows former Hollywood star Reagon Pearce (Phillippe) as he is kidnapped by thugs on the way to work in Shreveport, La.
•“The Culture High”: Documentary from the team behind “The Union: The Business Behind Getting High” explores the debate over marijuana legalization.
New York-based Vimeo, a subsidiary of IAC, claims to have more than 30 million registered members and reach a global monthly audience north of 170 million people.
