PRO WRESTLING NEWS:
---BJ Whitmer, whose neck was injured in a piledriver on the apron on August 3, will appear at ROH's Death Before Dishonor XI on September 20 to address his future. You can read the announcement at www.rohwrestling.com/news/bj-whitmer-update.
The last report we heard on BJ was that he had spinal stenosis, the same condition that caused WWE star Edge to retire when he did. That doesn't mean that BJ is done, but it does speak to the severity of the injury he suffered in August.
---WWE star, and Cincinnati native, Dean Ambrose was profiled by CityBeat.com, a Cincinnati based site. Ambrose was asked what his future goals were and he said, "To me, anything less than being the top guy in the industry, the top villain in the industry, the WWE Champion, is a failure. That’s a lot of pressure to put on yourself, but whenever I look at it realistically, that’s just how it is" You can read the article at www.citybeat.com/cincinnati/article-28565-cincinnati_native_an.html.
---Jim Ross wrote a blog about his WWE departure at www.jrsbarbq.com/node/36887
Ross took the high road, saying the time in WWE exceeded his wildest dreams and said he wouldn't have changed a thing except he wished he'd been able to avoid some health issues along the way, but that was the hand he was dealt.Jane Geddes sent out a memo to all WWE talent expressing the public story that Ross had retired from the company as opposed to having been released from his contract.Ross hinted at writing an autobiography, a project he's made overture about at different times over the past few years.
PWInsider has confirmed earlier reports that Jim Ross retiring from WWE was mostly a Vince McMahon decision and at least partially had to do with his behavior during SummerSlam weekend at the 2K14 panel. Ross retiring is actually WWE's way of announcing that he had been let go without causing any major uproar among fans since Ross is so beloved. This way, Ross could leave the company as a hero who left on his own. As noted, the decision was made by Vince and Ross was informed in the past two days or so. Ross has already received one major offer to sit down and record a shoot interview about his career. Ross did reveal on Twitter that WWE will still carry his JR's BBQ products. He tweeted: "JR's products still available online at WWEShop.com & at americansoda.co.uk . Nothing's changed & I still appreciate support."

---THE FIRST ANNUAL ROCKS OFF PRO WRESTLING FILM FESTIVAL SET FOR THIS NOVEMBER!
FIRST EVER FILM FESTIVAL TO CELEBRATE PRO WRESTLING TAKES OVER HISTORIC KRAINE THEATER IN DOWNTOWN MANHATTAN, FILM SOLICITATIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED
Blood! Guts! Triumph! Heartbreak! Revenge! - These are all the cornerstones of professional wrestling, which remains the world's most unique sport. Populated with unique characters portrayed by even louder personalities and events behind the scenes that are often far more bizarre than what's been scripted for its devoted audience, pro wrestling is one hell of an ever-evolving, always changing, most excellent sub-culture.
Hot off its successful Rock N' Roll Film Festival this summer, Rocks Off, NYC's sweetest concert promoter, is proud to announce that it will explore, exploit and spotlight the world of professional wrestling with the Rocks Off Pro Wrestling Film Festival. The first festival of its type in the world, The Rocks Off Pro Wrestling Film Festival will take place from Thursday November 21st through Saturday November 23rd, 2013 in New York City at the historic Kraine Theater.
Much like rock n' roll, pro wrestling is a unique beast that cannot be tamed - loud, arrogant, in your face, and awe-inspiring in its athletics and its theatrics. Steeped with unique history and personalities, it's a slice of Americana that cannot be explained, it can only be explored and loved – and Rocks Off intends to do just that - celebrate professional wrestling in all its two-fisted, off the top rope, kill or be killed, bad-ass glory!
The Rocks Off Film Festival is the brainchild of Rocks Off guru Jake Szufnarowski and PWInsider.com's Mike Johnson, one of the top writers on the pro wrestling genre. "We are looking to showcase original, unique content that explores and celebrates all aspects of professional wrestling,” said Johnson.
"Pro Wrestling can be dramatic, fun, campy, serious, shocking and more - sometimes at once - and we intend for the festival to bring out those same types of emotions for the audience. We are looking to cultivate a fun, eclectic, unique atmosphere - like a great pro wrestling card would," added Johnson.
All of the festivities will be hosted by the voice of Juggalo Championship Wrestling, native New Yorker KG Kevin Gill. Gill, a featured voice actor in the new Saints Row video-game alongside WWE greats Roddy Piper and Rob Van Dam, will be involved in all aspects of the festival, including hosting special post-screening Q&As.
The triple threat of Szufnarowski, Johnson and Gill are teaming as curators of the festival. If you are a director or producer looking to solicit your film for inclusion in the Rocks Off Pro Wrestling Film Festival, email RocksOffProWrestling@gmail.com. Limited slots are still available but we are seeking complete films, documentaries, short films, animated films and more!
Film Festival programming will begin to be announced this Monday 11/16, but we can announce our opening night festivities will include a special reception, a collection of unique short films on professional wrestling and a special night of comedy starring Colt Cabana and friends, live in 3-D!
Complete programming and ticketing information to follow!
For more details, visit RocksOff.com/FilmFest.
---We noted before that the Cody Rhodes "firing" on RAW seemed rushed because of a lack of communication between WWE officials and creative as of late. To go along with that, nobody in creative knew of Mark Henry being cleared to wrestle until reading about it online. Said one WWE source, "Communication process is the shits in this company."
--- Don't be surprised if WWE gives up on their "babyface experiment" with The Miz soon.
--- While John Cena won't be able to wrestle until around Royal Rumble time, there is already talk of bringing him back to WWE TV in October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Cena wants to start making appearances for the company to help with their big Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. Cena's rehab for his injuries will be one of the storylines for the second half of this Total Divas season also.
