variety.com/2014/digital/news/murdochs-bskyb-ups-stake-in-virtual-reality-company-jaunt-1201270083/Rupert Murdoch’s U.K. pay TV operator BSkyB has invested a further $400,000 in Jaunt, a Silicon Valley company specializing in 3D virtual reality entertainment. The move follows BSkyB’s $350,000 investment in Jaunt in December 2013. “These investments provide Sky with additional insight into developments within the field,” BSkyB said in a statement. The technology being developed by Jaunt, which was founded last year by Arthur van Hoff, Tom Annau and Scott Broock, allows users to explore artificial worlds in immersive 3D. Earlier this year, Jaunt said that it had received $6.8 million in venture funding from various investors, including BSkyB, Redpoint Ventures, Peter Gotcher, chairman of Dolby and DigiDesign founder, Sling Media co-founder Blake Krikorian, and SV Angel. As a part of that funding round, Tim Haley, partner at Redpoint Ventures, Gotcher, and Stuart Murphy, director of entertainment at BSkyB, joined Jaunt’s board of directors. Jaunt’s advisors include Babak Parviz, creator of Google Glass, Brad Wechsler, chairman of IMAX, Krikorian, filmmaker Mark Romanek, and musician Jared Leto.
