variety.com/2014/tv/news/walking-dead-robert-kirkman-outcast-1201269055/Comicbook writer Robert Kirkman’s new exorcism drama “Outcast” has been ordered to pilot stage at Cinemax. Kirkman, who co-created the “Walking Dead” comic series with artist Tony Moore, announced the news via Twitter from Comic-Con. “Outcast” is based on a Kirkman comic that follows Kyle Barnes, a young man who has been plagued by possession since he was a child. He embarks on a journey to find answers, but what he uncovers could mean the end of life on Earth. Kirkman will serve as exec producer with David Alpert of Circle of Confusion, Sue Naegle, Chris Black, and Sharon Tal Yguado of FIC. Cinemax acquired the script in November.

Philip Glenister and Gabriel Bateman will co-star, while the pilot will be directed by Adam Wingard. Fugit will play series lead Kyle Barnes, who has been "plagued by possession since he was a child." Glenister is onboard as West Virginian evangelical preacher Reverend Anderson, while Bateman is onboard as Joshua Astin, an 8-year-old with a mysterious connection to Barnes and appears to be possessed by a demon. Fans will likely recognize Adam Wingard's body of work from horror features "You're Next," "V/H/S" and its sequel "V/H/S 2." "Outcast" will be his first television project. The series does not currently have a release date, though announcing partial cast and a director is the most development the project has seen since the pilot was greenlit by Cinemax. The project landed at the network following a multiple-cable network bidding war. The series currently has a script commitment with a large penalty, meaning the writer and producer will be paid a fee should the pilot not get produced. "I think Kyle Barnes is every bit as compelling as Rick Grimes and demonic possession is way scarier than zombies -- so this is going to be fun," Kirkman said when the series was picked up by Cinemax. "Starting a new project is like setting off on an long journey and I couldn't ask for better travel companions than David Alpert and [FIC's] Sharon Tal Yguado and I'm thrilled to be a part of what Cinemax has planned for the next few years."

www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=57239&utm_campaign=kirkmans-outcast-pilot-announces-remaining-cast&utm_medium=email&utm_source=breaking_bulletinKIRKMAN'S "OUTCAST" PILOT ANNOUNCES REMAINING CAST According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cinemax has rounded out Robert Kirkman's "Outcast" pilot with five more actors: Reg E. Cathey as Giles, Rome's chief of police; Julia Crockett as Sarah Barnes, protagonist Kyle Barnes' mother; Wrenn Schmidt as Megan Holter, Kyle's adopted sister and child psychologist; Kip Pardue as Mark Holter, Megan's husband; and an unnamed actor as Allison Barnes, Kyle Barnes' former wife. (The entry for Allison Barnes has since been removed from THR's initial report.) Fans will know Cathey best from his roles in "The Wire" and "House of Cards" -- and he's also set to play Dr. Storm (Johnny and Sue's father) in Fox's upcoming "Fantastic Four" film. Crockett is a relative unknown, having guest-starred in a 2010 episode of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent." Schmidt has guest-starred on "Person of Interest," "The Americans" and "Boardwalk Empire." Pardue has recently been seen on "Ray Donovan" and "Mad Men," with a role in 2000's "Remember the Titans" as Ronnie "Sunshine" Bass. The four actors will join already-cast series lead Patrick Fugit, who plays Kyle Barnes, as well as Philip Glenister as Reverend Anderson and Gabriel Bateman as Joshua Astin. The pilot, written by Kirkman and directed by Adam Wingard, will introduce Barnes, a man plagued by possession since youth who sets out on a spiritual journey for answers. The pilot does not currently have a release date, but it's very likely the episode will air. "Outcast" landed at Cinemax after a multiple-cable network bidding war, and has a script commitment with a large penalty -- meaning both the writer and producer will be paid a fee should the pilot not get produced.
