‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Director Opens Up About Being ‘Terrified’ to Let Film Go
Marvel fans may be counting down the days until the release of “Guardians of the Galaxy,” but the film’s director James Gunn is a little more emotional as Aug. 1 draws near.
The writer-helmer posted a piece late Saturday on his Facebook page sharing his thoughts as he wraps up post-production on the superhero pic. While he used to be frustrated by the directors (namely, George Lucas and Ridley Scott) who would go in to their existing films and add new edits and other tweaks, he said he now understands them and could see himself doing the same after working on “Guardians” for two years.
“It’s been two years straight and I’ve starting to become terrified of actually having to STOP,” Gunn wrote. “But on July 7 I leave for Singapore to begin the press tour so I suppose I really have no choice.”
Gunn also said that he’s just about finished with the film, aside from some tweaks on the sound mix digital intermediate. Still, those at Marvel may have trouble pulling him away from the movie.
“I think the Marvel producers are starting to understand my almost psychotic inability to be happy with anything, and to pick apart things to the very bitter end,” he went on. “They’re going to have to tear this movie from my bloody grip.”
Gunn also shared an unusual love affair he has with one of the film’s characters, a feisty raccoon voiced by Bradley Cooper: “I get teary-eyed when I think of how I won’t be working with Rocket (at least for a little while). He’s been the center of my life for a long time now, and I’ve come to love the little son-of-a-bitch.”
Along with Cooper, the films stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Dave Batista as Drax, Zoe Saldana as Gamora and Vin Diesel as Groot. Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly and Glenn Close round out the cast.
“Guardians of the Galaxy” will hit theaters Aug. 1. Read the full Facebook post below:
