deadline.com/2015/02/malignant-man-writer-to-adapt-1201380413/‘Malignant Man’ Graphic Novel At Fox Gets A Writer Writer Zak Olkewicz has just been hired to adapt James Wan’s graphic novel Malignant Man for Fox which Wan plans to direct and also produce with Boom! Studios’ Stephen Christy and Ross Richie. The project was set up at the studio last summer. The story follows a terminal cancer patient who realizes that his tumor is actually a parasite and after given otherworldly powers, he must battle an army of evil buried beneath society’s skin while learning things about his own past. the original artistic team on the comic book deserve credit as well. Wan created the characters and story and Michael Alan Nelson wrote the comic book and Piotr Kowalski drew the series. Olkewicz has a prior relationship with the studio having recently sold his original horror/thriller pitch Elimination for 21 Laps and Fox Searchlight last year. Adam Yoelin was instrumental in bringing the writer to forefront and will co-produce Malignant Man. You may remember the writer from the pre-emptive bid Bob Weinstein made (and took off the market) for Dimension Films a while back with Ink & Bone, a clever storyline about an editor who is dispatched to help a reclusive horror writer finish his latest book only to find that he’s being held prisoner in his house by everything he’s ever written. Evan Daugherty is directing that one. The writer is represented by WME and 3 Arts. BOOM!, which has a first-look deal with Fox, has the largest independent library of owned comic book material outside of Marvel and DC Comics.
