Alex McAulay has come on board to adapt the script for “War of the Roses: The Children” for Permut Presentations and Grey Eagle Productions.
The project is a sequel to the 1989 hit “War of the Roses,” starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner and based on Warren Adler’s novel of the same name. The black comedy grossed $160 million worldwide for Fox.
Adler’s “The War of the Roses — The Children” follows the children of the divorce of Jonathan and Barbara Rose. Their son’s marriage falls apart due to what should have been an inconsequential incident involving a missing Milky Way bar — setting off a series of events that unleashes the deep-rooted damage that both adult children carry due to their upbringing in broken homes.
David Permut is producing with Grey Eagle’s Jonathan Adler and Stephen Greenwald. Chris Mangano of Permut Presentations exec produces.
McAulay’s Black List screenplay “Flower” is being produced by Danny McBride, David Gordon Green and Jody Hill’s company Rough House. McAulay served as a writer on the HBO series “Eastbound and Down,” and he is developing a new series for HBO and Rough House as a starring vehicle for McBride.
Permut is in pre-production on “I Am Chippendales,” written and to be directed by Alan Ball, and is developing “Kinison” with Josh Gad starring and Larry Charles directing. Permut also produced the cable movie “The Color of Rain,” which premiered recently on the Hallmark Movie Channel.
McAulay is represented by WME and Zach Cox and Noah Rosen at Circle of Confusion. Permut is repped by Lawrence Kopeikin at Morris Yorn Barnes Levine.
