variety.com/2014/digital/news/electronic-arts-shutters-warhammer-online-producer-mythic-entertainment-1201196083/Electronic Arts has dropped the ax on Mythic Entertainment, the developer behind games like “Warhammer Online,” “Dark Age of Camelot” and “Ultima Online.” The publisher said it will concentrate development of future mobile games at its other studios, and will provide assistance to laid off employees to find new opportunities either within EA or other companies through a job fair. Mythic, based in Fairfax, Virginia, launched in 1995, and was purchased by EA in 2006. Its “Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning” was shut down in December, as more consumers are spending their time playing free-to-play mobile games over subscription-based MMORPGs. Mythic had recently expanded into the mobile space with last year’s “Ultima Forever: Quest for the Avatar,” and mobile version of “Dungeon Keeper.” Kotaku first reported the news.
