With Participant’s expected arrival, production got under way this past week in Ghana. The picture is being directed by Cary Fukunaga and is produced by Red Crown Prods. Budget is pegged at around $6 million. IM Global was previously attached to sell international rights through its Acclaim label but is no longer selling; WME is handling North America. Sources close to the film say that the picture has a strong script and is a gritty story that could enjoy major festival play next year. The film is an adaptation of Nigeriad author Uzodinma Iweala’s bestselling debut novel of the same title. The story follows the journey of a boy who is forced to join a group of soldiers in an unnamed West African country.
