The Oscar-winning actor will play an idealistic congressman who becomes embroiled in a sex scandal. Production will take place in New Orleans amid the aftermath of the 2010 BP oil spill, an ecological disaster that ravaged the area. The picture is the directorial and writing debut of Austin Stark, the indie producer behind “Infinitely Polar Bear” and “Happythankyoumoreplease.” Production will begin on June 23, 2014. Cage, most recently appeared in the critical hit “Joe,” which was seen as a return to form after a series of dispiriting roles in duds such as “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” and “Season of the Witch.” The supernatural thriller “Pay the Ghost” is among the projects on Cage’s dance card. Cage is represented by CAA, Mike Nilon at KLWGN, and Jake Bloom and Patrick Knapp at Bloom Hergott. “The Runner” will be produced by Benji Kohn, Bingo Gubelmann, and Chris Papavasiliou for Paper Street Films and Glenn Williamson for Back Lot Pictures. Ruth Mutch, Noah Millman, Sam Bisbee, Tom Conigliaro and Erika Hampson will executive produce the film.

Gladiator‘s Connie Nielsen will play Price’s wife Deborah, a high powered attorney with her own political ambitions, while Peter Fonda has been cast as his father, a former mayor of New Orleans. Bryan BattWendell PierceAlso joining the cast are Bryan Batt (12 Years A Slave, Mad Men) as a Wall Street financier who caters to the big oil companies, and Wendell Pierce (Treme, The Wire) as Frank Legrand, Price’s Chief of Staff. The Paper Street Films and Back Lot Pictures production is being produced by Benji Kohn, Bingo Gubelmann, Chris Papavasiliou and Erika Hampson. Ruth Mutch, Noah Millman, Sam Bisbee and Tom Conigliaro are executive producers. Filming begins in New Orleans next week.
