Sci-fi and comic book FanExpo coming to Regina in May
Lineup includes actor who plays T-Dog on Walking Dead among others
One sci-fi convention will boldly go where no sci-fi convention has gone before; Regina’s first FanExpo will be held this May, but tickets are on sale now.
“Nothing of this size to my knowledge has been run in Regina,” explained Chad Boudreau, who owns Comic Readers downtown.
He will be at Fan Expo and he says fans of science fiction and fantasy in Regina need to support this convention, because if they don't.
“There won’t be a Fan Expo next year, this I’m pretty sure is a trial for them,” Boudreau said.
Special guests on the lineup for Regina include IronE Singleton who plays T-Dog in the hit TV series The Walking Dead and Ray Park who played Darth
Maul in Star Wars Episode 1. Tia Carrere who played Cassandra on Wayne’s World will also be at Fan Expo along with Marina Sirtis from Star Trek the Next Generation.
The comic book store owner admits that 15 years ago people who read comics didn't tell anyone, but he says that has changed. For his part, Boudreau is looking forward to the ‘Cosplay’ event at the expo where fans will have the chance to dress up as their favourite characters.
“It’s a place where people that are shy can dress up and truly be themselves,” he said.
Some fans are already looking forward to the local event, because before this chance they would have to go to Calgary or cities in the U.S. The sci-fi community will try to prove Regina can host events like these. But of course in the words of Yoda, “do or do not, there is no try.”
