Neil Marshall (The Descent) is set to direct NBC’s drama pilot Constantine, from Warner Bros TV.
Based on the characters in DC Comics’ John Constantine stories, Constantine centers on John Constantine, an enigmatic and irreverent con man-turned-reluctant supernatural detective who is thrust into the role of defending us against dark forces from beyond.
The project was written by Daniel Cerone from a story by him and David S. Goyer.
In TV, Marshall recently helmed the opening as well as the third episode of Michael Bay’s Starz pirate drama Black Sails and an episode from the upcoming fourth season of HBO’s Game Of Thrones.

John Constantine is described as a working-lass Londoner with rakish good looks, scruffy blond hair, deadpan humor, and signature trench coat, who has been studying the dark arts since he was a teenager. When the daughter of a late friend is targeted by demons, Constantine steps in to save her. The project was written by The Mentalist executive producer Daniel Cerone and David S. Goyer, the go-to writer for Warner Bros’ feature DC adaptations who has co-penned The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Batman Begins, Man Of Steel and the upcoming Batman vs. Superman.

TV drama pilot based on the DC Comics property “Constantine.” The Peacock on Thursday released a photo of star Matt Ryan in character as the Liverpool conman turned occult detective John Constantine, who finds himself battling dark forces to protect Earth. “Constatine” hails from David S. Goyer, Neil Marshall and Daniel Cerone. The trio boasts plenty of genre-fan cred through Goyer’s work on “The Dark Knight” series, Marshall’s time on “Game of Thrones” and Cerone’s stint on “Dexter.” “I’ve been a fan of John Constantine since he was first introduced in 1985. This Constantine, envisioned by Neil Marshall and embodied by Matt Ryan, looks like he sprang directly from the comics’ covers. Fans old and new are going to be in for a treat,” Goyer said. The Constantine character made his comicbook debut in 1985 as part of the “Swamp Thing” series. He then toplined his own “Hellblazer” and “Constantine” series. British theps Matt Ryan’s past credits include Showtime’s “The Tudors” and BBC’s “Torchwood.”

TV. “Constantine” , starring Matt Ryan, is an adaptation of the DC Comics property “Hellblazer.” Daniel Cerone and David S. Goyer exec produce the fantasy vehicle about occult master and demon hunter John Constantine, who is tasked with defending humanity from the forces of evil. Harold Perrineau Jr., Lucy Griffiths and Charles Halford co-star. Debra Messing starrer “Mysteries of Laura” is an adaptation of a Spanish format. It’s written and exec produced by Jeff Rake along with Greg Berlanti. Messing plays a homicide detective with a messy personal life. Laz Alonso, Josh Lucas and Janina Gavankar also star. On Tuesday, NBC handed series orders to three drama pilots: “Allegiance,” “Odyssey” and “State of Affairs.” “A to Z” comes from scribe Ben Queen and exec producer Rashida Jones. Ben Feldman (“Mad Men”) and Cristin Milioti (“How I Met Your Mother”) star as a mismatched pair who are brought together by a technical glitch at the online dating company where Feldman’s character works. Queen wrote the pilot and exec produces with Jones and her producing partner Will McCormack. Jones has had a busy week. On top of “A to Z,” TBS gave a series order to “Angie Tribeca,” the police procedural satire that Jones toplines for Steve Carell’s Carousel TV banner. NBC on Tuesday gave the greenlight to “Marry Me,” another relationship-driven comedy. The Peacock has already given series orders to three other comedies (“Mr. Robinson,” “Tooken” and “Taxi Brooklyn”) for the coming season but is expected to add at least one or two more prior to Monday’s upfront presentation in New York.
