Emerald Comics Distro says "Hello 2018!"
Hi! Been a while, yes? It turns out I've been pretty busy getting books into shops. Check out my sales numbers, news updates, and plans for the future.
ECD is off to a great start!
In 2017, Emerald Comics Distro served 49 creators and ended the year with 122 items in its catalog!
Emerald Comics Distro worked with 20 shops in Seattle, Tacoma, Mill Creek, Shoreline, and Portland.
ECD Distributes to Puget Sound and Portland
Since its inception, Emerald Comics Distro has expanded to 20 shops in Seattle, Tacoma, Shoreline, Mill Creek, and Portland. You can see a map of the the locations here. Some locations carry a smattering of indie titles mixed in with everything, and others have large, dedicated indie sections. While all ECD locations are friendly towards indie comics, some of the most indie-focused locations include:
Push/Pull in Ballard, Seattle (shown above)
Phoenix Comics & Games in Capitol Hill, Seattle
Outsider Comics & Geek Boutique in Fremont, Seattle
The Fantagraphics Bookstore in Georgetown, Seattle
Arcane Comics & More in Shoreline
Destiny City Comics in Stadium District, Tacoma
Floating World Comics in downtown Portland
Books with Pictures in SE Portland
Formerly, Zanadu Comics had a large indie/local section lovingly curated by Casey Silver of 80% Studios, but alas, the downtown comic shop is shutting its doors at the end of the month after 40+ years of business. RIP Zanadu.
So go visit your local comic shop, and perhaps check out a shop you haven't yet. If you're in the Puget Sound, you can use the sweet ECCC Comics Passport as a way to explore AND enter to win prizes! Consider Magic Mirror Comics in Mill Creek! It's a delight, and has a large LGBTQ+ section plus a heck ton of Star Wars things! Or Comics Dungeon which is part of a sweet nonprofit (C4C3) that supports comics in classrooms! Or just go give your LCS some love wherever in the world you may be.
What's the Plan, Anne?
In 2018, I plan to expand into a few more bookstores and comic shops in the Pacific Northwest. I will also continue to accept work into the ECD catalog.
However, the big project is working on a sustainable mail-order worldwide distribution, as I have certainly reached critical mass to be able to do that. This is still in the planning phases, but I will shout from the rooftops when I've got something going.
I discussed some of my future plans in my second interview with the Comicidal Terrahawks, who also interviewed me back in June. For my most up-to-date happenings, follow my Instagram @emeraldcomicsdistro.
Upcoming Events
While ECD is not formally tabling at ECCC in Seattle (March 1-4th), please come say hi to Anne in Artist's Alley at GG10, where she is helping her spouse, Mikeatron, sell his rad art. Also, you can check out her panel moderated by Rob Salkowitz, "Rebuilding Comics Business from the Bottom Up."
ECD will be tabling at DINK in Denver, April 14-15th! Come say hi and check out the books!
