History Orders Comic Book Special 'Superheroes Decoded'
The two-parter features Stan Lee, The Russo Bros. and George R.R. Martin.
History is tapping some big names from Marvel and DC to uncover the hidden origin stories of comics' biggest heroes.
The cable network will air the two-part special Superheroes Decoded on April 30 and May 1, and it's got an impressive lineup.
Some of the talent interviewed on the show: Marvel legend Stan Lee, Avengers: Infinity War directors Anthony and Joe Russo, Marvel star Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin, Iron Man director Jon Favreau and DC Comics writer Brad Meltzer.
Part one will look at the creation of iconic heroes such as Superman, Batman, Captain America, Wonder Woman and Spider-Man and track their development as it relates to U.S. history — from World War II to Vietnam to 9/11.
Part two examines the idea of the superhero as the rebel or outsider, taking a closer look at how the X-Men, Hulk, Black Panther, Wolverine, Luke Cage and Iron Man have broken the rules and were inspired by real-world social justice struggles.
The series comes as AMC is preparing to unveil the six-part series Heroes and Villains: The History of Comic Books from The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.
Warrior Poets is producing Superheroes Decoded for History. Morgan Spurlock and Jeremy Chilnick are executive producers for Warrior Poets, with Josh Mensch co-executive producer for Warrior Poets. Kristen Burns is executive producing for History, and A+E Networks holds worldwide distribution rights.
Superheroes Decoded will air April 30 and May 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
