Byron Allen's Gala Raises $1M for Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles
"Our goal is to help raise them $50 million over the next 10 years," the exec pledges at the event.
The Montage of Beverly Hills was packed Sunday evening with guests in attendance at the Entertainment Studios Gala, where Byron Allen, known for his work on such television programs such as The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson, Real People, Comics Unleashed With Byron Allen and upcoming game show Funny You Should Ask, hosted a charity event to raise money for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
This is the first year Allen and Entertainment Studios put on the event, and it won't be the last.
“This is a great cause — to raise money for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. I know a lot of people they help and save their lives and change their lives for the better. They do amazing work, and we can’t do enough to position them to succeed," said Allen.
He added: “It’s about raising awareness. It’s about raising money and positioning them for greater success. They’re already successful, but you just want to position them for greater success. Our goal is to help raise them $50 million over the next 10 years."
Only an hour into the evening, the gala had already raised more than $800,000, while an auction prior to the evening's music performances continued to bring in an influx of donations as well. The event was also a gathering where over 200 of Allen’s colleagues, peers and A-list friends watched the Academy Awards together.
There was overwhelming support for the film Moonlight at the gathering. Joey Mcintyre, formerly of New Kids on the Block and Allen’s close friend, spoke about the pic’s appeal during this year’s awards season. “I think Moonlight is the most important movie in I don’t know how long. It’s beautifully shot," he said.
The black-tie evening concluded with an eclectic performance by Babyface and Toni Braxton. By the end of the evening, Allen and Entertainment Studios met their goal — raising more than $1 million for Children's Hospital LA.
