The special will air May 16.
Tracy Morgan is the latest comedian headed to Netflix.
The 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live grad will star in a stand-up special for the streaming giant set to air in May, it was announced Friday.
Titled Staying Alive, the special will see Morgan explore his new take on life, career and mortality after surviving a near-fatal traffic collision in 2014. Topics include coping with a traumatic brain injury, his learning to walk again and even "falling for" his physical therapist.
The special was filmed at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, N.J. and will launch globally on May 16th.
The deadly multi-car crash in 2014, which claimed the life of Morgan's friend and fellow comedian James "Jimmy Mack" McNair, left Morgan in a coma with several broken bones. Morgan made his first public appearance the following June on the Today show. He followed that up with a triumphant surprise appearance at the 2015 Emmys, where he received a standing ovation. He hosted Saturday Night Live the following month, in October 2015.
He can currently be seen in the film Fist Fight, and will next headline a TBS comedy from Jordan Peele.
Morgan is the latest in a long line of impressive comedy talents to make the move to Netflix. Other comedians with upcoming stand-up specials include Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Amy Schumer, Dave Chappelle, Sarah Silverman and Louis C.K., whose two specials were announced earlier this week.
In recent years, Netflix has been aggressive in pursuing top talent for its ever-expanding slate of stand-up specials, subsequently increasing the competition for networks like Comedy Central, HBO and Showtime — all longtime homes to stand-up specials.
